Designed by Mewes and Davis and completed in 1911, The Royal Automobile Club is one of the premier gentleman’s clubs of London, attracting grade 2* listing for architectural quality and interior grandeur. With a finite footprint and aspirations to allow female membership, the project included a restoration programme for the Turkish Baths and Pool Hall, new sports facilities, an art gallery area and new back of house accommodation. The work was implemented in phases, attracting much debate from the national press and from influential members, either opposed to or in favour of change.
