Regeneration of an underused high profile site in Shoreditch, Hackney, creating a new mixed use development of 70 apartments and 1200m2 of ground floor commercial/retail space in two new buildings with a landscaped courtyard between.
The project created a flagship building for the newly formed college, establishing a bold new façade and entrance whilst internally providing a range of formal and break-out spaces that reflect the college’s new vision for teaching and learning.
The horseshoe plan transformed an existing courtyard into a bright and flexible atrium space, while a suite of state of the art teaching and breakout spaces were created in a refurbished block and new build wings.

Contemporary 2-storey brick extension to provide additional office space for a Grade II Listed Crematorium, drawing on the inspiration of the surrounding buildings and using geometric symbology and contrasting brick motifs to form a contemporary addition to a heritage site.
The Zig Zag Building replaces a 1950s office block with exemplary new office space. Freehaus were asked to develop a design for the new offices and training facilities for cafe and restaurant operator Benugo.
Working with a limited budget, Freehaus proposed a series of low cost interventions to create a contemporary, lively and grown-up environment befitting the aspirations of a young and fast-growing organisation.
The existing building in which the offices are housed was over cladded with aluminium insulated panels to improve thermal efficiency. The rest of the warehouse was to be used for steel carpentry work and the assembly of components for hydraulic systems. A new canopy was erected to the east side of the main volume and was equipped with heavy duty cranes for the loading and unloading of large components from lorries and trucks.
Our brief was to modernise the interiors of One Station Square, an under-used 1970s office block in Bracknell, increasing its attractiveness to occupiers.
We wanted to provide something completely new for the Bracknell office market and a major contributor to this goal was the removal of the suspended ceilings to expose the ‘potted’ soffit. This creates the impression of larger spaces.
