Contemporary modern linear extension to a Grade II listed Cottage in South London
Our clients a young couple with a three children found and fell in love with this cottage three years ago with a view to making it into a wonderful open plan family home. The house sits in a secluded walled garden in a busy suburb of south London and truly feels like if you stepped out the door you would not be in central London. The existing tile and timber clad cottage is Grade II listed and over the years had grown a number of unsympathetic extensions which detracted from the beauty of the original building.
Our approach was understand the narrative of the existing building and how the new owners wanted to use it and then to develop a detailed brief of how our proposals would blend in with it. Using materials that closely match and develop a distinct patina of their own our proposals will slowly blend in with the building as the family grow with the building.
Using a this palate of hand crafted materials in both the exterior and interior we blend a highly contemporary extension into the listed cottage using curved glass as a pivot point around the buildings own Well. The spaces created are all stunningly day-lit from both floor to ceiling glass and expansive roof lights, which give views out to the mature garden from both family living and private spaces
