2016New-build timber house
Ryedale is a new-build timber house designed for a self-builder on a tight triangular site in Peckham Rye. The whole site was built on up to the edge of the pavement of an awkward corner site in south east London. Formerly occupied by two garages, Nagan Johnson successfully gained planning permission for a modern two storey house.
Accommodation is on two floors, with a large open-plan living/ dining area, kitchen and separate WC on the ground floor, and three bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room, and a family bathroom on the upper level. The L-shaped form of the house shows an introspective design, with many of the windows facing the garden, whilst narrower openings in the cedar façade let light in from the street. Two large sets of bi-fold doors open onto the decked garden from the ground floor space, creating an effective flow between inside and outside areas.
