2015Refurbishment of part of an old Bush radio factory to provide Office units and a breakout working space.
Workspace asked Frost Architects to refurbish part of their building at Lightbox, previously an old Bush radio factory. Having already completed several phases of development and refurbishment, the remaining space yet to be upgraded was an old snooker club and informal parking area. Frost Architects created 10,580 sq ft of lettable office space and a flexible break-out area with soft seating and tables for informal working. A new toilet & shower core with tea point services the space.
The brief was to create a moody atmosphere with low lighting and finishes that reflect the industrial nature of the building. A raised seating area provides separate booths which can be used as work space, meetings or for break-out. A large wall mounted TV with AV and IT capability facilitates events and presentations.
The finishes palette includes sand-blasted brick, exposed galvanised services and distressed timber cladding. The lighting design provides varying effects with large wire frame fittings, industrial pendants and LED accent lighting. A playful approach has been taken with the graphics for both the toilet signage and meeting room imagery.
