Feix&Merlin Architects - CONDUIT STREET

Feix&Merlin Architects

London’s newest home for a diverse community of people passionate about positive social change. A 40,000 sqft hospitality project on Conduit St, in the heart of Mayfair, London. The project involved the full interior refurbishment and extension of an existing 8-storey neo-classical building to create a new a new members club with a social and sustainability focus.

The works included significant structural alterations, including full interior refurbishment with new internal partitions, two new goods lifts, new decorative finishes and lighting, and a series new spaces and amenities. A bold new extension has been created on the 6th floor, a peaceful relaxed space, clad in natural Portland stone and featuring a series of arched metal-framed windows and doors.

Word from the architect

We worked collaboratively with the local authority to ensure we kept the sentiment of the existing building and character of the conservation area alive, whilst at the same time creating something contemporary for our clients. We chose natural stone for its inherent beauty and visual interest, and were lucky enough to visit the quarry to select the very slab that the stone would be cut from. Working with an existing building has not been without its challenges but we had a great consultant team and a visionary client who all provided invaluable support and direction along the way.

Word from the client

The design and development of our project required diligence, creativity, care and an incredible amount of challenging work. The team at F&M led us through planning, challenges on site, and brought our vision to reality. From the smallest fixing details to subtly expressed stone arches that define our rooftop extension, they took the old world of Mayfair heritage and blended it with simplicity and modernity, giving a singular beauty to this transition of old and new.
