2006A remodel of a well established Chinese restaurant to return it to the up-market position which it deserved.
The main challenge was to deal with the existing U shaped plan of the restaurant. The decision was made to give some of the circulation areas special treatment to allow the engagement of the clientele with objects of interest and intrigue while moving through the building. One of the aims was also to provide a show case for antique Chinese artifacts, almost as if in a museum, and thus to combine the experience of fine dining with appreciation of the artifacts on display.
The new design re-instated the original window openings and, by moving the suspended ceiling away from the perimeter, allowed full height windows and thus more light into the interior. To the rear, a large roof-light was re-formed at mezzanine level, in an area that can become a self-contained space for private dining.
