Studio HE (or S /HE for short) is a boutique design studio based in London & Margate, UK.

Studio HE works within the fields of architecture, interior design and art direction. Working as a collaborative partnership, their complimentary skills and persona enrich each project they work on, bringing in subtle layers of of humour, beauty and craft through the blending of their professional skills and insights. Their collaborative nature and extensive creative network allows them to develop projects beyond the 'bricks and mortar', creating opportunity for innovative architectural design.

We place great emphasis on relationships and work closely with our clients (much like a tailor) in order to create well-suited, bespoke spaces. Our passion lies in spatiality and materiality, and subtle, surprising nuances. We don't just design beautifully, we design intelligently. As such, material, flow and light play large influencers on our design. We also believe a great project is executed with the right clients and supporting team. As such, we don't like to start the design process without your influence!

Bermondsey Street, London

Studio HE was commissioned by a private client to completely refurbish their newly-purchased 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom property, on sought-after Bermondsey Street, London. The client's brief was to have a second home with a wow factor, and a strong emphasis on colour. The space needed to accommodate a flexible work space, plenty of storage and to be able to grow with the family over time. The original property was a rabbit warren of doors all leading from a generously proportioned entryway with no natural light on three sides of the property....

Alaska Buildings, Bermondsey, London

‘Soft’ and ‘delicate’ were the starting points for the concept. The existing property had a myriad of architectural features – steel Crittal windows and doors, exposed brickwork and steel columns painted gold. A colour palette of subdued, grown-up pastels was chosen to bring a calming cohesiveness to the space. As the light changes throughout the day these subtle nuances of colours are picked up. Textures are modern and luxurious – linen and matt Fenix NTM sits alongside velvet, marble and mirrored surfaces. The interplay of these varying textures allows the space...

London Design Festival 2017 - Brixton Playing Fields

Brixton Playing Fields is an interactive, outdoor arts installation with collaborative play and inclusivity at its heart. Brixton Playing Fields was named as a headline partner of the Brixton district of London Design Festival 2017. “Play should be at the centre of a united community and our aim is to encourage adults and children to engage, talk, build and create together.” The concept was conceived by Studio HE in partnership with Lisa Turner-Wray, and developed in conjunction with The Remakery during a series of free workshops open to the public spanning...

Cradle of Idris

Competition for a mobile boutique glamping cottage to be set on the coast of Wales. The concept was derived by the sharing of mythical stories, shadow dance (light/shadow/theatre) and framing of views. The form was derived from beach huts flipped on each other then joined with a glass fissure (to allow for light/views). Working with natural material and native to Wales, we attempted to create a lush yet sustainable design. Utilising a stove, solar panels and converters, we sought to make this small cottage self sufficient. I.e. Utilising heat and solar...
