Ethos

We are a creative team with a shared passion for solving everyday challenges. We believe that logic, order and beautiful moments in our everyday bring joy, calm and inspiration. We don’t resign ourselves to living in spaces that frustrate us, and you shouldn’t either. The gestures may be grand, but they don’t have to be. Whatever the scale, they do need to be well thought through. We help you think things through, so that together we can identify smart fixes for your everyday living.

archangels ARCHITECTS, established in 2009, is a friendly, approachable and award-winning architectural practice based in Brighton, Bristol and the Isle of Wight. As a local business we believe in building relationships on all levels. We are actively involved in our community and have built strong networks with local organisations and groups. Our projects range from bespoke new builds to extensions of existing homes to modest internal alterations. Our mission to create cost-effective, creative, low-energy buildings that improve everyday living is the foundation for our highly varied portfolio. We try to keep the design process simple: You share your lifestyle, challenges, ideas, priorities and dreams. We listen, guide, inspire, explore and collaborate. It is of utmost importance to us that this process is collaborative; after all, this is your home, not ours. Together, we create your dream home.

Extending a Church Cottage

An old converted church in Hove had previously been split into two halves and this cottage stood on the rear end of the conversion. With some rethinking, the quirky character of the building had the potential to become a contemporary and unique home.

Rear Extension Creates Flexible Living

A simple 2.25 m deep single-storey rear extension and strategic internal reconfiguration create a flexible space that both welcomes large get-togethers and cultivates quiet days for two. The family can now also enjoy their garden from within, even when the weather doesn't encourage being outside.

Renovating a Listed Building

This stunning Hove seafront period property has been renovated within strict limitations of its listed status. While working on listed buildings generally takes patience, stamina and doing your homework before starting, the results can be extremely rewarding.

Transforming a Townhouse

Our client, a bachelor with an eye for contemporary design, owned a townhouse with an integral 5 (!) car garage. Together, we created a solution that converted the former garage into two bedrooms, a luxurious wet room, utility room and storage facilities. We reorganised the first floor by relocating a bathroom. This made room for a large open plan living/dining/kitchen area and allowed for a dramatic connection to the courtyard terrace with a sliding/folding door assembly that opened up completely. Uninterrupted access to the enlarged terrace creates a new external...
