Location: Reading, UK

Client: Landid & Brockton Capital

Project Year: 2014

Cost: Over £2m

In 2013, dn-a were commissioned by Landid and Brockton Capital Partners to re-develop the existing Minerva House in Reading Town Centre. The existing design of the building had an unsympathetic façade considering its close proximity to the Grade II Listed ‘Hospitium’ and Town Hall
The project team has re-developed, and reinvigorated this tired and unloved 1980’s building, which had remained vacant for a significant period of time; it was outdated in its previous condition and was detrimental to the important central office core of Reading. The finished project has enticed high calibre forward thinking companies looking for premises in an urban and vibrant location, rich in amenities.
dn-a adopted a fresh approach to the standard interior space philosophy, turning it into a mixed use work place fit for the 21st century. This was achieved by making dramatic improvements to the office floor plate, reinvigorating the façade, simplifying the entrance and providing high quality retail amenities.
The entrance and foyer have been re-designed to improve the visual imbalance caused by the lift tower. The new entrance combines the two existing doors to form a single large metal clad portal. This transforms its feel and ‘kerb appeal’ and enhances the buildings image. The foyer has been remodelled to create a better sense of arrival. With double height ceilings and a crisp look.
The office interiors now express a modern and open feel. This has been achieved by replacing the traditional suspended ceiling and exposing the insitu concrete soffit.
The space itself has being designed to provide everything that is needed for the modern commercial tenant, most importantly, is the flexibility that it provides tenants, who can customise everything from the design of the kitchen and communal areas to the occupation density of the workplace.
The development has been well received; “The overall finish to the interiors is impressive, offering us an exciting and radically different office environment to our previous location... helping improve efficiency and collaboration.” - Mark Carey - CFO Maybe Holdings.
