Location: Wapping, London
Project Year: 2013
Cost: £0 - £100kWe linked the entrance area on the first floor to the kitchen and living room below by constructing a ‘hidden lobby’ and a new open staircase. The language of materials was deliberately simple as the owners wished to display their collection of art throughout. All walls and fixed furniture is kept white, whereas the joinery, such as the floor, staircase, handrail and full height door frames are picked out in maple, a light wood with a beautiful grain. The flat exists essentially within its own concrete shell. Evidence of its outer skin can be found in the bathrooms, where we stripped back the suspended ceiling to reveal the slab above.
